| Melbourne bound |
[Mar. 29th, 2009|05:36 pm] |
So I've accepted a flash animator job in Melbourne. 2d Animation in Brisbane has taken a nose dive and I just don't have the chops for the game industry, Meanwhile My animation series sits on the shelf because everyone is too scared to spend money at the moment. blah! so Melbourne it is.
Quite a few Brissy animators have made the move in the last 6 months and are loving it! I'm kind of excited and nervous, I love Melbourne but can I live there, someone mentioned it gets cold there, oh man.
I'm trying to tee up a place before I go but I have a few friends floors I can crash on till I get my legs. Once I've settled I'm really looking forward to catching up with Melbourne people . The comic book funny events are already on my list and so is Trail Of Dead at the corner hotel.
adventure yes! |

| New Blog |
[Mar. 2nd, 2009|02:31 pm] |
Hey hey, I'm going to start posting my art based stuff over at my new blog. I'm still going to use this for checking out peoples lj posts but I'll be strictly be posting over there from now on. (except perhaps my journal comics which will probably stay here)
I don't have a paid lj account so if anyone that wants to hook me up with a lj syndicate feed I'll post it here for anyone that want to keep checking out my goods via livejournal.

I'm trying to give myself a deadline of a week to finish each of these however this started out as a simple idea and then I kept adding more and more things.
I've embedded it from my Flikr site as the upload to youtube is crap. I think I've figured it needs to be 30 frames per sec for it to play properly with out missing frames while I'm using the standard animation 24 frames. It'd be a bugger to re jig the frame count though.

| Samboy entry |
[Feb. 6th, 2009|07:17 am] |
Here's a short animation I completed for the Samboy Flavour hit film festival. I had so much fun making this, I think more flash shenenagins are in order.
I'm still figuring out the whole converting flash for youtube thing as I notice it seems to have dropped some frames in the process. |

| New web thingys |
[Jan. 19th, 2009|08:25 am] |
http://www.jaseharper.com/ I've re done my website, made it a lot simpler with just a link to all my art on my flikr site and etsy shop.
I've also started to put all my journal comics in one spot online at webcomics nation: 'My Drawn Out Life' I'm only about half way through but I should have everything there by the end of the week.

Was supposed to post this yesterday but I got distracted.
I'm not sure if it's common knowledge but if you sit atop the Kangaroo Point Cliffs in Brisbane you can quite clearly hear the bands playing at the river-stage. Next week is Prodigy. |

And yes the Brisbane comic store guy did say that. However they did say they were going to fix that in the next month or so...we'll see.
To you Melbourne people, where are some more mini comic friendly places? I already have copies at Polyester and 696 galleries. I'll be in Melbourne later this week so I want to go drop off some in person. |

Got my comp copy of a recent freelance gig. It's an in house comic book for Madman DVD and featured comics by myself, Darren Close, Sky Ogden, Ryan Wilton and Vikk Ong, alI written by Scott Alexander. I was impressed by the quality of the book and overall it was a fun little gig! above is 2 of the 4 pages I contributed.
The cover features a great FU to Piratebay by Justin Randall.
I've seen the result of downloading first hand this year with Dvd distrubitors here and abroad closing or having tough times which has led them not being table o pay the returns to the creators which then leads to less animation jobs and then in turn is leading to sound studios etc closing down as well. Not a good time if you work in the film industry. Something to think about.

What happened between us 2008? We started off great, had some of the best times together ever, then towards the end you just didn't seem into it. always preoccupied, always working back late at the office, coming home smelling like booze.
2009 I'm not sure about you, can we take it slow and see what happens, I'm kinda feeling vulnerable after the thing with 2008. |

A local magazine is running a comp for a Big Day Out themed cover. Only condition was it had to be based on one of next years Big Day Out acts. So I put on some Neil Young, and then proceeded to go through several attempts at it before finally I settled on this one.
